Lena Cornelia Smaling Kros 89, passed away Sept. 2, 2001 in Salt Lake City, Utah from a massive heart attack.

She was born Jan. 21, 1912 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands to Gerrit Smaling and Bastiaantje de Roos. She married Gijsbertus W. Kros in 1934 Rotterdam, Holland. After immigrating to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1951, their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple Sept. 23, 1952.

Mom was an excellent seamstress, loved to do embroidery and needlepoint work for which she won several award ribbons at the State and County Fairs.

Survived by: son, John (Corry) Kros; daughter, Jeannette L. (Guy) Schuurman; eight grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Smaling Kuilman of Adelaide, Australia. Preceded in death by husband, parents, brother and sister.

The family would like to express their gratitude for all the care given to mom by her neighbors: Richard and Irma Keyser and Aase Strand.

Graveside services will be held Friday Sept. 7, 2001, 11 a.m. at Mountain View Memorial Estates 3115 East 7800 South Bengal Blvd. where friends may call one hour prior to services.
