SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — The man sought in the slayings of an elderly woman and two of her grandchildren in a peaceful Los Angeles suburb is an ex-boyfriend of a woman who lives in the house, authorities said.
Police identified the suspect in the Wednesday afternoon shootings as Reynaldo Herrera Rodriguez, 35, a civil engineer for the state Department of Transportation.
Rodriguez went to the home looking for a former girlfriend, Maria Rios, but she was at work at the time of the shooting, police Sgt. John McGinty said.
One wounded victim, Rigoberto Calderon, 16, told police Rodriguez entered the home through an open garage and shot him in the thigh, then opened fire on the others.
Espiranza Martinez, 80; Ricardo Calderon, 12; and Rios' 4-year-old daughter, Shantal; were killed.
