Animal artwork

The Museum of Art, Brigham Young University, will host "Untamed Spirits: Animal Imagery in Native American Art," a new exhibition celebrating the connection between man and the natural world. The exhibit illustrates how animals, depicted in art on utilitarian objects, clothing, adornments and ritual objects, were believed to possess characteristics capable of empowering humans. "Dough Bowl" (clay and pigment, 10 by 14 inches, ca. 1875), above, is a Cochiti Pueblo example of the work that will be on display through March 16, 2002.
