Senate Republicans and Senate Democrats agreed to close more military bases in five years — "to help pay for homeland defense." At least they are giving Peter notice that he will be robbed in order to pay Paul.
Take a member of Congress voting to shut down bases. Chances are that the closest thing to a military installation in his or her home district is an Old Navy outlet.
Since 1988, 451 bases have been closed by the government — causing more small businesses to go belly up then Wal-Mart.
Admittedly, some of the bases were a bit obsolete — Fort Apache, Fort Sumpter and Little Big Horn.
