Will he play or won't he?

Utah coach Rick Majerus still won't say whether suspended point guard Travis Spivey will play Saturday or not. But some of Spivey's teammates believe he will play against UNLV in the 1 p.m. game at the Huntsman Center.

Majerus stuck to his "no comment" stance on the Spivey situation all day Thursday, through a Mountain West Conference call in the morning, a Crimson Club meeting at noon and a during a late-night phone call. After practice Thursday afternoon he never showed up to talk to the media as two television crews and a couple of reporters waited for more than an hour before giving up.

"I honestly don't know, I just don't know," said Majerus Thursday night when asked if Spivey would play this week. "I don't know what's going to happen."

Jeff Johnsen, who is a team captain along with Spivey, is confident Spivey will play Saturday.

"We want him back and it's starting to sound like coach wants him back," said Johnsen. "He's had two really good practices and I think he'll play Saturday and he'll do well."

Britton Johnsen says the Utes are a good team with or without Spivey, but — like his brother — he's optimistic Spivey will play Saturday.

"We like Travis . . . he's a good guy and we definitely want him back," he said. "He brings good leadership on the court and when he plays hard defense he fires everybody else up. I feel he'll be back and things will get back to normal."

Majerus said both freshman guards, Eric Osmundson and Martin Osimani, have practiced well this week and indicated one of those two would start at point guard Saturday, although he wasn't sure which one.

The Utes may also be without center Lance Allred who started both games since Chris Burgess injured his foot against Texas. Allred was ill in California, missing the game-day shootaround Monday and has gotten progressively worse this week. If he doesn't play, the Utes will count on Phil Cullen and Cameron Koford in the middle.

After playing UNLV Saturday, the Utes meet San Diego State Monday night at 7 p.m.
