Alvin Thomas (Al) Benefiel, age 61, died Wed., Jan. 9, 2002 in St. George, Utah after a battle with cancer.

He was born Jan. 27, 1940 to Alvin Harry and Lois Mae McCracken. Al married Elizabeth Snow, later divorced. Al married Nadine Whitehead, Nov. 26, 1983 in Murray, Utah.

Reared in Denver, Colorado, Mr. Benefiel lived in Salt Lake City, Utah most of his life. He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation as a draftsman for the Glen Canyon Dam at the beginning of his career. He worked for Mack Trucks, in Parts and Services Sales for 30 years. He also worked for Salt Lake City Mack Trucks and Carlson Cadillac before moving to St. George where he worked briefly for the Ram Company. He enjoyed restoring his 1941 Chevrolet truck and was an avid tennis player. Known for his selflessness, he was an excellent husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife Nadine, Santa Clara, UT; children: Shellie Ann (Shawn) Josephson, Sandy, UT; Troy Thomas (Tammie) Benefiel, Elko, NV; Dana Marie Benefiel, Sandy, UT; Terri Lucas, Salt Lake City, UT; Gregory Justin (Dana) Randall, St. George, UT; seven grandchildren; father, Alvin, Denver; twin brother, Andrew Tilden Benefiel, Cheyenne, WY; brother, Harry Daniel (Thelma) Benefiel of Arvada, CO; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and his dog, Lucky. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 14, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the Santa Clara LDS 11th Ward Chapel, 3680 Pioneer Parkway, Santa Clara, Utah. Visitations will be held on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 300 West St. George Blvd., and on Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel prior to service. Interment in the Santa Clara City Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, 673-4221.
