James A. Belt passed away at his home on Jan. 5, 2002 due to Alzheimer's complications.

Born Jacobus Aloysius Belt on Dec. 25, 1915 to Marinus Jacobus Belt and Elisabeth Maria Biesot in Leiden, The Netherlands. Married Petronella Catharina Nijkiel on Oct. 18, 1939 in Leiden, SH, The Netherlands. Immigrated to the United States in February 1947 to be with the Saints in Zion. Sealed in the Salt Lake Temple June 25, 1948.

James worked at various jobs in Ogden and Salt Lake until making accounting his career at Utah Power & Light Co. He lovingly served as a ward and stake clerk for 27 years. James and his wife, Nellie, were ordinance workers for the Salt Lake Temple for numerous years. They also did genealogy for their ancestors. He was an avid soccer fan. He loved to tell jokes.

Survived by his wife of 62 years, Petronella; daughter, LuAnn (Bob) Shaffer; three grandsons, Rob (Jessica), Jeremy (Tiffany), and Nicholas Shaffer. Preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Marinus, Paulus and Albertus Belt, all of The Netherlands.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2002 at 12 noon at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. 10600 S., where family and friends may visit from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment: Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
