PARK CITY ? The Utah Alcoholic Beverage Control Department has approved a Park City request to close its small Main Street liquor store two hours earlier than normal during the 2002 Winter Games.
The store, normally open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. six days a week, Feb. 8-23.
The city's Olympic security office asked for the change in hours to help maintain order on Main Street, which will be closed to traffic and turned into a pedestrian mall during the Games.
"They didn't want people that are a part of that Main Street event there just accessing the liquor store till all hours," said Earl Dorius, compliance and licensing manager for the department.
Two other state liquor stores are located in the area, including one at Prospectors' Square, about a mile away from the Main Street store.
