VAVA'U, TONGA — All missionaries and members are safe after a tropical cyclone tore through Tonga's northern islands, destroying crops, homes and businesses. Cyclone Waka hit Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 with winds raging at 105 mph.

Elder Ronald T. Halverson of the Seventy and president of the Pacific Islands Area, reported that the homes of 11 member families were destroyed; thousands of other member homes sustained roof damage.

The Church shipped emergency supplies from Nuku'alofa, Tonga's capital city located more than 280 miles south of the worst-hit areas.
