Utah Highway Patrol troopers made 42 DUI arrests Friday night as part of a two-night enforcement campaign covering the metro Salt Lake area.
Troopers stopped 442 cars Friday in the weekend effort to get impaired drivers off the road, said UHP Sgt. Doug McCleve.
He said he had mixed feelings about the night's results — pleased with the success, yet unhappy there was anyone driving under the influence of alcohol.
"One's too many," he said.
Troopers also made 16 arrests on outstanding warrants, 13 arrests for drug use or possession and issued three citations for concealed weapons violations. Of the 42 DUI arrests, seven were minors arrested for drinking.
McCleve said 46 troopers worked in the campaign Friday night, along with police officers from Bountiful and Sandy.
More troopers were expected to participate Saturday night, and McCleve said he hopes fewer arrests will be made as word spreads that the UHP is looking for impaired drivers.
