Dennis V. Peterson, 85, passed away Jan. 15, 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was born on Oct. 15, 1916 in Logan, Utah to Anna Zbinden and Victor E. Peterson. Married Faye Wheelwright on Sept. 5, 1944 in San Francisco, CA. Marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Attended Logan High and graduated from Utah State University where he affiliated with Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Denny then enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Dec. 8, 1941. He delivered aviation gas and oil and refueled ships at sea in the Pacific Islands. Later, he delivered ammunition where his ship was torpedoed but survived and brought the ship to harbor as acting captain. Discharged as Sr. Lieutenant in 1946.

Denny became an agent of Equitable Life Assurance Co. and CLU becoming District Manager for seven years and finally Agency Manager for 20 years, retiring in 1973 after 33 years with Equitable. He served several years as President and General Chairman of the United Way. Denny enjoyed golfing, fishing and most of all being with his sweetheart, Faye.

Denny is survived by his wife, Faye; daughter Linda (Randy) Florence, Sandy; son Blake (Jill) Peterson, West Jordan; daughter Kaye Phalon, Salt Lake City; and grandchildren, Tyson, Amy (Woods) and Ryan Florence, Natalie and Brandon Peterson, Jessica and Sarah Phalon and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Darwin.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 18, 2002 at 12 noon at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Dr., Salt Lake City. Friends and family may pay their respects on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary and also one hour before funeral services on Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that a donation be made to the Utah State Veterans Nursing Home.

The family expresses gratitude to the caregivers at the Utah State Veterans Nursing Home for the devoted, thoughtful and loving care of Denny.
