NEWPORT, Ore. — A man accused of killing his wife and three children and then fleeing to a Mexican resort showed no emotion during two court hearings, giving brief answers to a judge's questions before he was arraigned on aggravated murder charges.

Christian Longo, 27, joined Wednesday's hearings via closed-circuit television from Lincoln County jail. During the first hearing, he said "yes" when asked if he would like a court-appointed attorney and "no, I am not" when asked if was in a position to hire one.

Longo, who had been on the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted" list before his weekend capture, was later arraigned in the deaths of his wife, MaryJane, 34, and children Zachery, 4, Sadie Ann, 3, and Madison, 2. He did not enter a plea.

Two attorneys were appointed to represent him, and his next court hearing was set for Jan. 23.
