John Adam Noffsinger, "Big John," 72, a 20 year resident of Scio, Oregon, died Jan. 6, 2002 in Lebanon, OR. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah October 29, 1929 to Verdie V. Petersen Osborne and Daniel M. Noffsinger. Attended West High School. Served in the United States Marines from 1946 to 1959 including five years in the reserves. While in the Marines, he was an all-round athlete in swimming, wrestling, boxing, track and body building. He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad out of Barstow, CA, for Big Bear, CA, Security, and at Santiam Cannery in Oregon. Married his soul mate, Clara Kathryn Johnson on Feb. 28, 1961. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He is survived by his wife, Clara; brothers, Daniel T. and Clyde N. Noffsinger; sisters, Nancy H Geoslin, Marva H. Simmerling, and Patricia M. Larsen; one son, Hans Adam Noffsinger Bass; and stepsons, Richard, John and Gary Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Norma N. Ratliff, Betty and Donna Noffsinger, and brother, David Noffsinger.

Memorial services to be announced at a later date. The Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements, Sweet Home, OR.
