- Gwen Stranquist Williams, 84, passed away Thurs., January 17, 2002.

She was born March 25, 1917 in Salt Lake City, to Henry C. and Veda Cooper Stranquist. She had three sisters who preceded her in death: Anna Jane Chain, Shirley Heming-way, and Ruthy Roberts.

On Feb. 23, 1940, she married Harmon Greenwell Williams of Ogden, and together they raised four children.

After two years at the University of Utah, Gwen transferred to the University of Washington where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in business administration. She was a student at Weber State University for many years, taking classes for the love of learning in the language and humanities departments.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Gwen spent her life in active service to the community. She received the "Yesterday's Girl Scout - Today's Successful Woman of the Year Award" and was a long time member of the Utah Girl Scout Council. She was a committed volunteer and leader for the Utah Symphony Board, Ogden Symphony Ballet Association, Junior League of Ogden, United Way of Northern Utah, Weber County Council on Aging, Weber State Institutional Council, Weber County Welfare Board (now Weber County Human Services), and Applied Technology Center of Ogden/Weber. She received the Merit of Honor Award from the University of Utah Emeritus Alumni Association and the Distinguished Alumni and Service Award from Weber State University.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Harmon G. Williams, Ogden; one daughter and three sons: Celia Williams (Don) Baron, Menlo Park, California; Robert H. (Kris) Williams, Flagstaff, Arizona; Harmon S. (Gayle) Williams, Ogden; David F. (Jenny) Williams, Ogden; and seven grandchildren: Scott Baron, Tyler Baron, Jed Williams, Matt Williams, Kelly Williams, Harmon J. Williams, and Conor Williams.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ellen Greenwell.

Funeral services will be held Wed., January 23rd at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Tuesday, Jan. 22nd from 6-8 p.m. and Wed. 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery, 1875 Monroe Blvd.
