Arlene Hawkins Thomas, 61, passed away Jan. 17, 2002, at home.
Born Jan. 28, 1940, in Lethbridge, Canada to Floyd J. and Frieda Mauerman Hawkins. Married Clifton L. Thomas in Salt Lake City.
Arlene had a way of touching the hearts of everyone she came in contact with. She always carried herself with dignity, and held her head up high even in the most difficult situations. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. She has been involved with and worked for the Independent Living Center also as a Vista Volunteer and was politically active for people with disabilities. Arlene had a rare neuromuscular Disease called Friedreich's Ataxia. She fought hard for most of her adult life, especially the last two years trying to beat this disease, and if you asked Arlene she would say she did.
Survived by son, Michael T. Thomas; Grandchildren, Troy and Jack Thomas; brother, Ken Hawkins (Kay); sisters, Jeanette Merrill (Don), Jeanine Hatch (Clarence) and Linda Allen (Bryan).
Preceded in death by son, Mark Thomas; parents and husband.
Funeral services will be held Monday Jan. 21, 2002, 2 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 10600 S. 1850 E. where also friends may call Sun. evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services, (Handicap accessible). Interment: Redwood Road Memorial Estates.
