Marian Gaborik chipped in with his 17th goal and an assist and Andrew Brunette had two assists for the Wild, who ended a four-game winless streak (0-2-2-0).
The loss ended Columbus' five-game home unbeaten streak (4-0-1-0).
Minnesota is 3-1-0-0 in four meetings between the second-year NHL franchises.
Fernandez was touched for Espen Knutsen's goal in the first period but turned away 19 shots in the final two periods.
