PROVO — Jerry Grover is the new chairman for the three-man Utah County Commission. He is taking over for Gary Herbert, who served throughout 2001.

David Gardner takes on the role of vice chairman for 2002, the first leadership role he's taken for several years while he's battled personal and legal problems.

In addition, portfolio assignments were shuffled in the Wednesday morning meeting.

Grover will oversee the justice court, the clerk/auditor's office, the Utah County business development office, community development and agricultural inspections.

Gardner will monitor the public works department, the data processing department, personnel and the assessor's office and the Children's Justice Center.

Herbert will work directly with the sheriff's department, health and human services, the recorder's office, Foster Grandparents and the treasurer's office.

All three will be involved with the Clean Air Commission, the Council of Governments, Mountainland Association of Governments, Wasatch Mental Health, the constables and the Substance Abuse Authority Board.
