Fort Laramie and its significance to the emigrant trails and history of the west will be discussed on Thursday, Jan. 10, at 7 p.m. at the monthly meeting of the Utah Crossroads Chapter of The Oregon and California Trails Association.
Mike Landon and Bill Slaughter will present the free, public program in the Salt Lake County Commission Chambers, County Government Complex, North Building, 2100 S. State.
Fort Laramie became an important supply and resting place for emigrants. When the U.S. Army acquired the fort it provided military protection for travelers on the trail.
In their research, Slaughter and Landon have analyzed primary documents to enrich earlier works done on Fort Laramie by LeRoy R. Hafen and Merrill Mattes.
