PARK CITY — Two of the film festival alternatives to Sundance have announced the winners of their 2002 competitions:
"My Father, the Genius," a documentary about a woman's relationship with her architect father, was the big winner at Slamdance 2002. Lucia Small's affectionate, tongue-in-cheek piece won both the Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary and the Award for Best Editing.
Other jury-prize and audience-award winners at Slamdance, which is now in its eighth year, were presented with their "Sparky" awards during closing-night ceremonies on Thursday. A full list of winners is available on the festival Web site www.slamdance.com.
"The Real Spider-Man: The Making of 'The Green Goblin's Last Stand,' " which is also a documentary, was the big winner at the NoDance Film & Multimedia Festival. Dan Poole's documentary, about his efforts to make a low-budget superhero movie, won the Award Award for Best Documentary and tied for a Golden Orbs award (for "guerrilla marketing") from the 5-year-old festival.
