CEDAR CITY — Southern Utah University has awarded three scholarships through the Utah Coalition for the Advancement of Minorities in Higher Education. The program offers cash awards offered to students of color who are U.S. citizens and residents of Utah, recognized for their academic and vocational achievement, leadership and community service.
SUU recipients are Shanda Wauneka, Valerie Taylor and Rosalind Smith. Wauneka is an American Indian junior from Cedar City majoring in sociology and is president of the Native American Student Association at SUU. Taylor, a Hispanic student from West Jordan, is a freshman majoring in theater arts. She is president of the Students for Campus Diversity organization. Smith is an American Indian student from Shonto, Ariz., and is a senior majoring in accounting.
