Mission presidents

SHARE Mission presidents

Eight new mission presidents, called by the First Presidency, have been announced. The new leaders and their wives will begin service about July 1. Their assignments will be announced later. The new leaders and their wives are:

John and Anita Cushing

John R. Cushing, 67, Bountiful Stone Creek Ward, Bountiful Utah Stone Creek Stake; retired executive of Metropolitan Life Insurance, outgoing mayor of Bountiful; attended BYU and University of Utah, received professional designations from American College; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to William Morrison and Ruth Riley Williams Cushing. Married Marco Mabey, four children; she died in 1997; married Anita Kay Brownlee Davenport in 1999; she is the mother of six children. Her husband, Byron F. Davenport, died in 1995.

Sister Cushing received a bachelor's degree in speech therapy from BYU and was Davis County Head Start disability coordinator; born in Wendell, Idaho, to Darrell Eugene and Grace Margaret Williams Brownlee.


Beth and Clayton Huber

Clayton S. Huber, Edgemont 9th Ward, Provo Utah Edgemont North Stake, Area Authority Seventy; BYU professor; received bachelor's and master's degrees from Utah State University in dairy science and Ph.D. from Purdue University in food science; born in LaPoint, Utah, to LeRoy and Vera Johanna Taylor Huber. Married Beth Briggs, parents of seven children.

She attended Utah State University; born in Ogden, Utah, to Lawrence Roy and Helen Wilcox Briggs.


Robert and LuGene Osmond

R. Robert Osmond, 63, Evanston 5th Ward, Evanston Wyoming Stake; senior vice president of First National Bank in Evanston, Wyo.; received bachelor's degree in economics from Utah State University; born in Afton, Wyo., to Rulon VanNoy and Norma Kennington Osmond. Married LuGene Simpson, four children.

She is a graduate of Felt & Tarrant Comptometer School; born in Smoot, Wyo., to Jesse Calvin and Ivy Hunsaker Simpson.


Henry "Hank" and Kristy Nelson

Henry "Hank" Aldous Nelson, 54, Riverton 20th Ward, Riverton Utah Stake; counselor at Larkin Mortuary; received a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah in finance; born in Denver, Colo., to George ElRoy and Alice Louise Taylor Nelson. Married Kristy Stewart, eight children.

She received a bachelor's degree in art from BYU; financial planner for Primerica; born in Provo, Utah, to Scott Paul and Hilda Ellen Farrer Stewart.


Kathleen and William Sherwood

William H. Sherwood, 58, Canandaigua Ward, Rochester New York Palmyra Stake; vice president of management of Integrated Documents Inc.; received bachelor's degree from Utah State University and master's in finance from the University of Colorado; born Phoenix, Ariz., to William Hubbell and Martha Mitchell Sherwood. Married M. Kathleen Jensen; nine children.

She received a bachelor's degree in history from Utah State University; born in Riverside, Calif., to Forrest J. and Mary Lindsay Jensen.


Kenneth and Kristy Sorber

Kenneth L. Sorber, 45, Sunset Heights 8th Ward, Orem Utah Sunset Heights Stake; senior associate, ESNET Group; received bachelor's degree from BYU in history; born in Portland, Ore., to Howard Royden and Edith Margaret Olroy Sorber; married Kristy Nelson, five children.

She received a bachelor's degree in zoology from BYU; was born in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, to Glen C. and June Allen Nelson.


Bryan and Joanne Weston

A. Bryan Weston, 58, Bountiful 9th Ward, Bountiful Utah Stake; zone administrator for Church Educational System; bachelor's degree from Utah State University in education, Ph.D. from Montana State University in genetics; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Arlo Baker and Vernetta Coombs Weston. Married S. Joanne Smith, 11 children.

She received a bachelor's degree from Utah State University in education; born in Logan, Utah, to Richard L. and Orfa Johnson Smith.


LeRoy and Mary Wirthlin

LeRoy S. Wirthlin, 65, Bloomfield Hills 1st Ward, Bloomfield Hills Michigan Stake; staff surgeon, vascular surgery, William Beaumont Hospital; received bachelor's degree in biology from University of Utah, received medical doctor's degree from Harvard Medical School; born New York, N.Y., to LeRoy Alvin and Emilie Stiefel Wirthlin. Married Mary Louise McEntire, 17 children (16 living).

She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Eldon Taylor and Zella Skidmore McEntire.
