William Andrew Simpson, 81, born August 3, 1920 in Silver City, Utah to Clarence Eugene and Rachel Mary Baxter Simpson. Bill departed this life January 19, 2002 at his home in Murray, Utah.

Married Nada Roper, July 2, 1947, in Fillmore, UT and was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. They lived in Lynndyl, UT until moving to the Murray/Salt Lake City area in 1968. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Bill served in World War II and fought in five major battles, including the invasion at Utah Beach and the Battle of the Bulge. All his life he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an accomplished sportsman and had a great respect for nature and the outdoors. He spent many enjoyable times with his family at their cabin, which he built, near Strawberry reservoir. Bill retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 43 years with the Water Service Dept. He was most happy when working at home or elsewhere. He gave many hours of service helping others.

Survived by his wife of 54 years; children, Paula Roundy, Rick (Louise) Simpson, Renae (Conley) Peterson, Leland Simpson, Larry Simpson; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchil-dren; two sisters and one brother, Carolyn Smith, Norma Majors, Jay (Vivian) Simpson. Preceded in death parents; four sisters; and one grandson, Ryan Simpson.

Services will be Wed. Jan 23, 2002, 1 p.m., Hillcrest Ward chapel, 5600 S. 435 E. Friends may call Tues. 6-8 p.m., Jenkins-Soffe Mort., 4760 S. State St. and Wed. 12-12:45 at the church. Interment, Murray City Cemetery.
