Walter Hawkes Jensen, 88, was born March 12, 1913 in Hyde Park, Utah, to Simon Carl Jensen and Madia Hawkes. Walter departed this life, Jan. 21, 2002 at his home in Bountiful, Utah.

He was married to Melba Parkinson, April 29, 1941 in the Logan LDS Temple. Walter's career with the Federal Government took him and his family to many locations in the west, the Washington, D.C. area and culminated with his appointment as Lieutenant Governor of American Samoa. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Bishop thrice in his life and on various High Councils. He was a talented watercolorist and enjoyed woodworking and lapidary skills, photography and gardening. In his youth he loved to hunt and fish and relished the out-of-doors all his life.

He is survived by his son, W. Curt, his wife Kari, and their children Kiersten, Keith, Kara, Kreg and KateLyn.

Services will be held Friday, Jan. 25, 2002 at 12 noon at the Oak Hills Ward Chapel, 455 South 1200 East, Bountiful. Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing at 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank all the staff and caregivers of Rocky Mountain Hospice for their tender care and devotion given to Walter, and counsel and advice shared with his family.
