ST. GEORGE- <! > Leonard Benjiman Butcher went home to his Heavenly Father on Tues., January 22, 2002 in St. George, Utah.
He was born July 13, 1932 in Farmington, Utah to Parley and Laura Ward Butcher. He mar-ried his true love and lifetime com-panion, Joanne Fowler, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Leonard was very proud of his service to his country from April 24, 1950 until May 29, 1953. He was a Seaman on the USS Iowa during the Korean War. He loved people which made him a great Scout Master and Sunday School Teacher. He loved to fish and hunt and spend time with his family and friends at his summer home at Bear Lake. In the last year, when he was very ill, he was a volunteer at Red Cliffs Regional Rehabilitation Center where he resided. He passed out newspapers, greeted people, called Bingo, and on one occasion gave stuffed animals to all the other residents to keep them from being lonely. He also wrote an article for their monthly newsletter which he was very proud of. It was called Lenny's Highlights. We were all richly blessed to have him touch our lives and we will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Butcher of St. George; two children, Michael Butcher and Vickie Koster, both of St. George; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Loreen Evans of North Ogden, Utah; two brothers, Paul Butcher of Ogden, Utah and William (Rayetta) Butcher of Oregon; one half-sister, Barbara (John) of West Point, Utah; and one half-brother, Paul Knolden of Arizona.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 26, 2002 at 3 p.m. at the Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary Chapel.
Friends and family may call Friday, January 25, 2002 from 7-8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to services at the Mortuary. Interment will be in the Tonaquint Cemetery under the direction of Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary, 435-673-2454.
