FILLMORE<! > : Newel H. Mitchell, 80 of Fillmore, UT passed away January 22, 2002 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, Provo, Utah after a accidental fall at his home.

He was born August 22, 1921 in Fillmore, Utah to Hyrum Samuel and Grace Davies Mitchell. He attended school in Fillmore and graduated from Millard High School. In his junior year he attended Utah's first Boy's State. He married DeVaun Rasmussen on May 28, 1951 in the Manti Temple. Dad was the last living charter member of the Fillmore Volunteer Fire Department and one of the original members of the East Millard Riding Club. During the 1970's and early 80's he was a Utah State Brand Inspector. He served as Water Master for the Central Utah Irrigation Company and Chalk Creek Irrigation Company. Dad was self employed as a successful farmer and rancher. He loved the outdoors, riding horses, working with his cattle on his farm and in the mountains. He enjoyed working with wood. He built the home, and a lot of it's furniture, where he and DeVaun raised their children and entertained the love of his life, his grandchildren. Dad was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served various church positions in the Fillmore 3rd Ward.

Dad is survived by his wife of 50 years of marriage, DeVaun; daughter Irene Scott; sons, Gail (Vickiann) Mitchell; Paul (Jodie) Mitchell all of Fillmore, UT; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild; sister, Nina (Henry) Eastwood, Oxnard, CA; brothers, Lloyd (Helen) Mitchell of Fillmore, UT; and Reid Mack (Gwenivere) Mitchell of Bountiful, UT.

Funeral services will be held Saturday January 26, 2002 at 11 a.m. in the Fillmore Stake Center at 25 S. 300 W. Fillmore, Utah. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Mortuary in Fillmore and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment in the Fillmore City Cemetery under the
