ROOSEVELT, UT<! > - Josephine Borg Yergensen, age 83, of Roosevelt, UT, died Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at the Uintah Basin Medical Center.

She was born February 15, 1918 in Bingham Utah, to Alma Fernando and Laura Mae Simpson Borg. Her early years were spent in the Sevier Valley, where she lived and attended school in both Sigurd and Richfield. She married Elmer B. Yergensen, of Monroe, on February 7, 1937, and they moved to the Uintah Basin. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo LDS Temple on October 27, 1989.

Josephine was employed by J.C. Penny Company, then served as chief operator for Mountain Bell Telephone, and later as recorder for Roosevelt City. In 1975, she was a co-founder of Datamax Computer Systems, and served as Secretary-Treasurer and Office Manager for Datamax for over 25 years, establishing the home office in Roosevelt, with branch offices in Florida, California, and Washington. During her tenure, Datamax received awards as Prime Contractor of the year, from NASA, and for participation in the development and testing of the Space Shuttle.

She was active in civic, political, religious, and charitable organizations. She was an active member of the LDS Church. She served on the Planning and Zoning board for 15 years, was a director of the Roosevelt Chamber of Commerce, secretary/treasurer of the Utah Association of Highway Safety Leaders, and a member of the District Six Law Enforcement Planning Agency. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, State Director of Girls State, and held many offices in local and State organizations, including President of the UBIC, and State President of the National Association of Business and Professional Women. She received many accolades and awards for her service to the community, including "BPW Woman of the Year".

She is survived by her husband Elmer Yergensen, Roosevelt; and children Phyllis Goodrich, Salt Lake City;

Michael (Donna) Yergensen, Roosevelt; and Stephen (Sue) Yergensen, Palm-dale, CA; and her sister Ruth (Glendon) Rhoades, Roosevelt; nine grandchildren, five step-grand-children, 15 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

Josephine was inspirational to all who knew her. She was an industrious, warm, and compassionate caregiver, dedicated to enthusiastic service. She was a pillar of strength to family and friends. Her quick wit, good sense of humor, and friendly smile will be sorely missed and long remembered.

Funeral services will be held at

2 p.m. Saturday January 26, 2002, Roosevelt East Stake Center 502 N. 600 E. A viewing will be held from

6-8 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2002, Hullinger Mortuary 457 E. 300 N. A viewing will also be held preceding the funeral services from 1-2 p.m. at the East Stake Center. Interment at the Roosevelt Memorial Park.
