Research to Prevent Blindness, the world's leading voluntary health organization supporting eye research, has awarded 107 grants totaling more than $11 million to research the causes, treatment and prevention of all blinding diseases.
Grants include funding for departments of ophthalmology at 55 American medical schools as well as grants to 215 individual researchers.
Research looks at a variety of diseases, including cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa and eye movement disorders.
