Jay Collins hit two free throws with seven seconds to play to help give Southern Utah a 71-70 overtime win over Oral Roberts Thursday night. The win moved the Thunderbirds (7-11) into a tie for second place in the Mid-Continent Conference, along with ORU (10-11) and Oakland, at 4-2.

With the Thunderbirds trailing 70-69, Collins drove to the basket and picked up a blocking call against ORU's Luke Spencer-Gardner, sending Collins to the line for the crucial free throws. After Collins hit both, Spencer-Gardner — who finished as the game's leading scorer with 29 points — looked for a shot but couldn't get open.

After controlling the game, and particularly the tempo, through the first 28 minutes of the game, Southern Utah fell victim to a barrage of 3-pointers from Spencer-Gardner and almost saw this one slip away.

ORU scored the first three points in overtime, but the Thunderbirds got a layup and a jumper from Dan Beus and a jumper and the final two free throws from Collins to pull out the victory.
