A man protesting the Salt Lake Organizing Committee's planned 2002 Olympic Rodeo was arrested Wednesday at the International Olympic Committee headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Sean Gifford, a member of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, was arrested after he chained himself to the front door of IOC's offices and then stormed the reception desk.
At the time, Gifford was dressed in a cow suit.
As a nonresident of Switzerland, Gifford was ordered to pay a $60 bond ? equivalent to the fine he could face ? in case he fails to appear in court, Lausanne Municipal Police spokesman Christian Sechaux told the Associated Press.
Gifford was held for questioning while protesting the rodeo set to take place Feb. 9-11 at the Davis County Fairpark during the Olympic Arts Festival. PETA maintains rodeos are cruel and don't follow Olympic ideals of peace and goodwill.
Gifford chained himself to the door of the IOC building and carried a poster reading "Don't Shame the Games ? Stop the Olympic Rodeo!"
