The slowest speed ever achieved in an Olympic slalom race is 6.33 miles per hour by Greece's Antoin Miliordos in the 1952 Oslo Games. He picked his way down the 422.5-meter qualifying course in 2 minutes 26.9 seconds. The largest margin of defeat in slalom competition belongs to Alejandro Preinfalk Lavagni of Costa Rica, whose 1992 combined time of 4:29.13 was more than 2 1/2 times slower than that of gold medalist Finn Christian Jagge.
