BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON — There's no such thing as a free ride, even on a chairlift.

A 21-year-old man was arrested this week and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on forgery charges, a third-degree felony, after allegedly duplicating a season pass for Brighton Ski Resort on his computer.

"You don't see this often," said Salt Lake County sheriff's deputy Peggy Faulkner.

The man was charged with a felony because the value of the season pass is $445. In cases where a person uses another person's authentic pass, it's considered a theft of service, a misdemeanor, Faulkner said.

The fake season pass was spotted by Brighton employees.
