Anticipating the "most difficult parking days of the year on campus," University of Utah officials have sent messages to students, faculty and staff asking that they use public transportation or share rides from Monday, Jan. 28, through Thursday, Jan. 31.
More parking spaces will be withdrawn from general use as Olympic activities step up. The last week of classes before an Olympic break Feb. 2 through Feb. 26 also has created more demand.
The use of U. campus housing for Olympic athletes, combined with the scheduling of opening and closing ceremonies at the Rice-Eccles Stadium has generated serious parking challenges on the campus. Opening of a TRAX line to the U. has helped to alleviate some of the pressure.
