Count backward to know when to seed transplant crops

Starting transplants indoors is a matter of counting backward. If it takes 13 weeks to grow your petunias from seed to transplant size, decide on the date that you want to put them in the garden. Then count back the right number of weeks and seed your crop. Seeding now will give transplants that are ready about the first of May. Some crops take longer, while others take a shorter time. Choosing which evergreen trees are right for your landscape is a little easier with a copy of "Trees of the Intermountain Area" by Dr. Mike Kuhns, Extension Forester for Utah State University. The book is available from commercial bookstores and from any USU Extension Service office in the state.
