A bill that would allow county commissions to make minor changes to their boundaries unanimously passed the Senate on Friday.

The passage of SB80 would be an important step in solving problems associated with subdivisions that cross boundary lines, such as the SunCrest housing development in Draper, Sen. Carlene Walker, R-Sandy, said.

"It's a simple thing to solve a major problem," she said.

The bill sets specific guidelines for county commissions wanting to make changes to their boundaries, allowing them to make a change of up to 1,000 feet without having to go to a general ballot. Those guidelines are needed if a proposed constitutional amendment is approved by the Legislature this year and voters in November.
