Burgess to play?

Chris Burgess has been pointing toward Monday night's BYU game as his first game back for Utah after injuring his foot Dec. 29 against Texas.

Burgess began practicing Thursday, and although his teammates are optimistic, coach Rick Majerus doesn't think he'll play.

"We don't anticipate him playing," said Majerus. "I don't think he'll even suit up to tell you the truth."

Jeff Johnsen was more optimistic than his coach, saying, "Chris has been practicing this week and he's looked fine to me. We hope he can play."

But as Majerus reminded, the decision on Burgess' availability will rest with Ute trainer Trevor Jameson, Burgess and himself.

"I have always erred on the side of caution," said Majerus. "I'd rather bring him back 10 games too late than one minute too early."

After Monday's 10 p.m. game, the Utes play Saturday at home against Colorado State.
