Dr. Layfe Robert Anthony of St. George will be sentenced Feb. 4 on a charge of negligent homicide, a class A misdemeanor, before 5th District Judge Robert Braithwaite in Cedar City. The charge is the result of a plea bargain in which Anthony will plead no contest.

Anthony originally was charged with a second-degree manslaughter involving the 1999 death of a liposuction patient.

The Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing suspended Anthony's licenses to practice medicine and administer controlled substances in April 2001, forbidding him to perform surgery and prescribe and administer controlled substances.

The division suspended his licenses in Aug. 2001 after he "performed a prohibited medical procedure," according to the division.
