Olympics to help Utah Food Bank

The Utah Food Bank is 200,000 pounds short of its 1.5 million-pound goal but will be getting some help from the Olympics. The Food Bank and the State Hunger Network received more than 1.3 million pounds of donated food that will be used statewide at emergency pantries to help those going hungry.

Despite the shortfall, the Utah Food Bank will have the opportunity to distribute surplus food commodities from Olympic venues and events that will be delivered and donated on a regular basis. The donations to the Food Bank will help keep the surplus food from being wasted.
