OREM — Requests for reservations on a special bus shuttle from Utah Valley State College to downtown Salt Lake City has reached Olympic proportions.
On Monday, customers clogged the Utah Transit Authority outlet east of the University Mall to reserve their seats for the bus shuttles that will deliver hundreds of passengers to the Rio Grande Depot near the Olympics Medals Plaza for Olympics-related events Feb. 9 through Feb. 23.
UTA spokesman Chris McBride said the majority of those making reservations are Utah County residents with tickets to either Olympic ice skating events or Cultural Olympic productions being held downtown. Venue and cultural event tickets include the shuttle service but reservations — which are going fast — are required, McBride said. Others can pay $4.50 for the round-trip service.
Five buses at a time are scheduled to leave the UVSC parking lot north of the McKay Events Center at 1:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Buses will leave Salt Lake City at 9:30 p.m.,10:45 p.m., 11:15 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. for the return trip.
UTA staff reported Tuesday that spaces were still available for all departure times, but they were filling up quickly.
The UTA outlet is located at 1135 S. 850 East and is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. For more information call 801-227-8923.
