LaVerl P. Baker, beloved wife of Stanley J. Baker, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on Dec. 31, 2001, at her home in Peoria, AZ.

She was born August 20, 1927, in Logan, Utah, daughter of Alfred Hugh Powell and Leona Marie Anderson. She and Stan were married in the Salt Lake Temple on February 9, 1956 and were blessed with one wonderful son, who preceded her in death. LaVerl looked forward to a long awaited reunion with her beloved Michael.

Her primary education was in Logan, Utah, later graduating from East High School in Salt Lake City. She attended Utah State University and the University of Utah. She received her diploma and became a travel agent and later managed a travel agency in McLean, Virginia. She assisted in returning the Jewish people from Asia to Israel in the 1940's, and later she and her family lived in Bangkok, Thailand and Rio de Janeiro for nearly seven years. She and Stan traveled the world extensively during his World Bank days and enjoyed their many wonderful friends and neighbors. She was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All who were blessed with her acquaintance loved her and will miss her happy loving spirit very much.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her brother, Alfred H. Powell of Salt Lake City and her sister, Marjorie Higlin of California, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.

A viewing will be held at the Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel in Sun City West, Thursday, January 3rd, 2002, from 2 - 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 5, at 11 a.m. under the direction of the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home of Orem, in the Manila Stake Center, 950 East 850 North, American Fork, Utah with a viewing from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m. prior to service. Interment will be at the Wasatch Lawn Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Utah immediately following the service.
