WEST VALLEY CITY — Police continued Thursday to look for some 75 to 100 keys stolen from a car dealership. Some of the keys were for Salt Lake Organizing Committee vehicles during the Olympics.
The keys were stolen from Gus Paulos Chevrolet, 4050 W. 3500 South, sometime Monday morning, West Valley Police Lt. Charles Illsley said. The keys go to Suburbans, Tahoes and other large passenger vehicles, he said.
Gus Paulos general manager John Franks said keys to only 25 Olympic vehicles were stolen.
All of the vehicles have a second set of keys that were not stolen, Franks said.
A green 2001 Suburban was also stolen Monday night off the Gus Paulos lot but it was not an Olympic vehicle. The alleged thieves drove it through the car lot's chain link fence to get away, Illsley said.
Investigators were still trying to determine Thursday how the keys were stolen and who may be responsible. Franks said he doubted the thieves knew they took keys belonging to Olympic vehicles. They grabbed a board with a bunch of keys on it at random.
