William Haymond Thiess, 84, of

Lindon, Utah passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2002 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center of complications from a stroke.

He was born July 13, 1917 in Lander, Wyoming to Walter Henry and Helen Mae Watson Thiess. He married Hermese Abbott on May 29, 1938 in Bunkerville, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple. Bill attended schools in Las Vegas, Nevada and graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1936. He and Hermese raised their family in Las Vegas, where they resided for over 55 years. They moved to Lindon, Utah in 1993. He was employed as a conductor by Union Pacific Railroad for 46 years. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including counselor in the Las Vegas First Ward Bishopric. He also served as a temple worker in the Las Vegas and Mt. Timpanogos Temples.

He is survived by his wife Hermese of Lindon; six children: Katherine (Darwin) Farnsworth, Bentonville, AR; W. Kenneth (Nancy) Thiess, Parker, CO; Robert N. (Linda) Thiess, Louisville, KY; Barbara (Eric) Despain, Sandy, UT; Debra (Craig) Geslison, Spanish Fork, UT; Lori (Lynn) Hadlock; Mt. View, WY; 24 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2, 2002 at 11 a.m. in the Old Lindon Chapel, Main Street and Center Street, Lindon. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Lindon City Cemetery.
