A report Wednesday by the Chicago Tribune has increased speculation that members of the 1980 U.S. men's ice hockey team may play a prominent role in the opening ceremonies.
A story by reporter Steven Rosenbloom said the "Miracle on Ice" team members had planned to arrive Feb. 9 in Salt Lake City for a dinner ? a day after opening ceremonies.
But team member Jack O'Callahan said he received a call from the 1980 team's agent, Bob Murray, last week and Murray told him the U.S. Olympic Committee now wants "at least 15 players from the team to be there by Feb. 7."
A USOC fax told team members to wear black clothing for the ceremonies, where they will be "introduced and recognized."
