ROY — A man wanted in aggravated auto theft out of Spokane, Wash., was arrested following a high-speed chase in Utah that ended in a spectacular collision Thursday.

Utah Highway Patrol trooper Scott Singleton said he was on I-84 in Box Elder County about 11:30 a.m. when a Honda Civic drove by going 110 mph.

The trooper turned around to give chase but could not catch up with the vehicle. As officers from the Weber County Sheriff's Office pursued the vehicle, the fleeing car exited at 5600 South in Roy, blew past the stop at the bottom of the hill and went right back on the onramp, he said. But the car was traveling so fast that once it hit the incline of the onramp it went airborne.

"It was unbelievable watching it. All four wheels went off the ground," Singleton said.

The car hit the ground, slid out of control and crashed into a Honda Accord. A female driver in the Accord suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Civic, 20, was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital to be checked out and was then arrested. His girlfriend was not injured and was not arrested.

The man is accused of assaulting another person and then stealing the victim's car in Spokane on Wednesday.
