Ray Judd Downs, age 83, died Jan 3, 2002, at home surrounded by his loving family af-ter a lengthy illness.

He was born to William and

Florence Downs in Orem, UT Dec 14, 1918. He mar-ried Mary Allen Dec 28, 1942, at Evanston, WY. Their marriage was later solem-nized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He obtained his early schooling in Lindon and Pleasant Grove and attended Utah State University, where he obtained Bachelor and Masters degrees in the field of Agronomy. He served in the US Army for 3 1/2 years during World War II. He was em-ployed at Utah State Uni-versity, Dugway Proving Grounds, Oregon State University, and Geneva Steel Company as a Research Agrono-mist. Later, he served as a Division Director in the Utah Department of Agriculture where he retired several years ago.

He loved the outdoors and spent much time with his wife, children, and grandchildren enjoying his favorite hobbies of gardening, camping, fishing, and traveling.

He was active in the LDS Church and served faithfully in many ward and stake positions. He also enjoyed fulfilling various temple assignments.

He is survived by his wife; three sons and two daughters, Dennis (Marsha) Downs, Sandy, Lynette (Dennis) Butler, Orem, Kerry (Linda) Downs, Orem, Sharon (David) Lender, Kent (Heather) Downs, Pleasant Grove; 25 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters; Elvin (Helen) Downs, Bessie (Bud) Shelton, American Fork; Reva (Ray) Keetch, Magna. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Ruby; brother, Alfred, and infant son, Roger.

Services will be in the Orem Sharon Park 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 250 E. 200 N, Orem, UT, 11a.m. Tues, Jan 8, 2002. Viewing, Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 S. State, Orem, UT, 6-8 p.m. Mon. Jan 7, and at the Chapel prior to services 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Orem City Cemetery. Thanks to Rachel and Marci from Hospice.
