VERNON-<! > Dean Martin Gurney, age 83, passed away January 5, 2002, in the Utah Valley Regional Hospital in Provo, Utah.
He was born Oct 12, 1918, in Lehi, UT to Wil-liam John and Martha Emma Bushman Gurney. He married Mel-ba Jean Nielsen in the Salt Lake Temple Nov 6, 1946. She died April 2, 1998. He grew up on the Jordan River with his father and served in the Army in World War II. He retired from the Tooele Army Depot after over 30 years as a diesel mechanic. He was active in the LDS Church and served a mission to the Southern States Mission and served in many capacities in the church, including being a bishop. He loved fishing and life, but the love of his life were his kids and grandkids.
Survived by two sons and two daughters, Merrill Dean (Connie) Gurney, Taylorsville; Reece (Robin) Gurney, Kaysville; Susan (Kent) Sagers, Karen (Mike) Tamllos, both of Vernon; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Richard (Lisa) Gurney, Cedar Hills. He was preceded in death by his wife; six sisters; and two brothers.
Services will be Wed. Jan 9, 2002, 12 noon, Vernon LDS Chapel, Main St, Vernon, where friends may call 10-11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Vernon City Cemetery with military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Services under the direction of Wing Mortuary, Lehi.
