The nationwide premiere of four new postage stamps commemorating winter sports and the 2002 Winter Olympics will be Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 10:30 a.m. inside the Legacy Lodge at the Park City Mountain Resort.
The ceremony is free and open to the public. It will include the unveiling of a giant enlargement of the new stamps, which depict figure skating, snowboarding and ski jumping.
"It's going to be a thrill to issue these stamps at a location where the athletes will soon compete in the 2002 Winter Olympic Games," Stephen L. Johnson, district manager for the Postal Service in Utah, said. "The stamps will make a great addition to any envelope and make for a great keepsake as well."
The stamps, as well as a first-day-of-issue postmark, will be available following the ceremony on Jan. 8 until noon at a temporary post office inside the Legacy Lodge. Stamps will also be available on the first day at the Park City Main Post Office, 2100 Park Ave., and the Park City Old Station, 450 Main, from noon to 5:30 p.m.
The stamps will be available at post offices nationwide starting Jan. 9. The first-day-of-issue postmark and stamps may also be ordered through the mail by calling 1-800-STAMP-24.
