HERRIMAN — After five hours of authorities unsuccessfully trying to establish contact with a man who had barricaded himself in his house, the ordeal ended when the man made contact with his family Thursday night.

The family of the 35-year-old unidentified man, who apparently lives alone, hadn't heard from him since Wednesday about 10 a.m., and on Thursday went to the house, near 4500 West and 11800 South, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Shane Hudson said.

At the house they found "all the windows have been covered with sheets and it appears all the doors" were barricaded with furniture, Hudson said.

In addition to medical personnel, 30 sheriff's deputies responded because the man had guns and apparently had recently made statements about wanting to hurt others.
