CHICAGO — Krissy Wendell scored two goals, and Natalie Darwitz had a goal and an assist to lead the United States women's hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Canada in an exhibition Saturday.
The Americans beat Canada for the sixth straight time and improved to 25-0 on their pre-Olympic schedule. Canada fell to 11-6.
Wendell gave the United States a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 3:44 of the first period. Canada goalie Kim St. Pierre attempted to clear the puck from behind the net, but it deflected off Darwitz to Wendell, who was alone in the slot. She scored into an unguarded net.
Jayna Hefford tied it 1-1 at 3:11 of the second. Hefford carried the puck over the blue line, deked and slid a backhander past goalie Sarah Tueting. Wendell's second goal gave the United States the lead for good.
