SCHONACH, Germany (AP) ? Felix Gottwald of Austria won a Nordic combined World Cup event for the fourth time this season, and Todd Lodwick of the United States finished in fourth place Saturday.
Gottwald was 2.8 seconds ahead of Finland's Samppa Lajunen. Germany's Ronny Ackermann was third, 18.2 back after two jumps followed by a 15-kilometer cross-country race. Lodwick was 25.1 seconds behind.
Gottwald captured the 10th World Cup title of his career. He and Ackermann both have won four times through 10 World Cup events this season.
Ackermann retained a narrow lead in the overall standings with 1,220 points to 1,200 for Gottwald. Lajunen is a distant third at 955, followed by Lodwick at 786.
Ackermann hoped to become the first German to win in Schonach since 1987. He lost his lead after the jumps against Gottwald, his leading challenger for the gold medal at the Olympics.
"Naturally I would have like to win here but Gottwald turned in a very strong performance," Ackermann said.
Finland's Jaako Tallus leaped 95 meters and 94 meters to take the lead after the jumping. Ackermann was second, 38 seconds back, while Gottwald was fourth, trailing by 1:04.
