SAG rejects Gilbert’s victory as president

The bitterly divided Hollywood union representing 98,000 actors Monday threw out Melissa Gilbert's recent victory in its presidential election because of procedural foul-ups.

Gilbert, best known for her role as fresh-faced tyke Laura Ingalls in TV drama "Little House on the Prairie," will remain as Screen Actors Guild president for the next three months until the election is run again, officials said.

The unprecedented move by SAG's election committee does not result from any actions by Gilbert, 37, but rather from disregard of voting rules by employees at the union and at polling administrator Sequoia Voting Systems.

Actor Elliott Gould will also have to run again for secretary as will Kent McCord for treasurer. The new postal ballot is set for March 15-April 10.
